About Trust

Kantilal Jaikishandas Charitable Trust was established by Shri Kantilal J Choksi, by a Trust Deed on 07/04 /1979. The trust was registered on 01/06 /1979, with the office of the Charity Commissioner, Ahmedabad, and its registration number is E-3522.

Founder

Shri Kantilal J. Choksi was born in the year 1915. He belonged to a renowned and highly reputed family of gold ornament dealers of Bharuch.

Although coming from a family of traders, Shri Kantilal J. Choksi, earned degrees of B. A L.L.B. Further, he commenced legal practice but was soon drawn to the national movement and was soon deep in to it. He consequently left the legal profession and became a full time social worker. He was an active member of the then Indian National Congress Party. He took active part in the national freedom struggle and went to prison several times. He was popularly known in the entire Bharuch district as “ Kantubhai”.

Being a man of great foresight, Shri Kantilal J. Choksi, could visualize the path the Congress was to tread in future, and therefore, left Congress immediately after the independence. Shri Choksi thereafter, established and successfully run an opposition group in Bharuch known as Janta Mandal comprising of the leading citizens of the town, for about 35 years. He was the President, Bharuch Municipality for about 15 years. During his stewardship not only did the Municipality function most efficiently but its financial position remaind always sound and stable. In addition to this, he was chairman, Municipal School Board, Bharuch for many years. He was an avid reader and this drew him towards Library activity. He was the Secretary of the Raichand Dipchand Library, Bharuch, for about 40 years, and due to his vision and care, the library is today counted amongst the richest private libraries in Gujarat.

In addition to his being an honest, straight forward and able administrator, Shri Kantilal J. Choksi had developed keen interest in homeopathic system of medicines. During the period of imprisonment, he had thoroughly studied and had acquired sound knowledge of this system. Shri Choksi effectively used this knowledge by giving homoeopathic medicines free of cost to needy, poor and rich alike. This was one of the ways in which he rendered invaluable social service, which was the main purpose of his life.

Shri Choksi strongly believed that a healthy mind exists in a healthy body. He took keen interest in the activities of Bharuch Vyayam Shala and made immense contributions to its developments as one of its trustees.

Shri Choksi strongly believed that homeopathic system of medicines is not only very cheap but also very effective in treating various diseases. Therefore, it is but natural and appropriate that toady, over and above running an excellent educational institute namely, The Udgam School for Children, the trustees of Kantilal Jaikishandas Charitable Trust, are continuing the noble tradition of providing homeopathic medicines to the members of public by establishing and successfully running seven homeopathic dispensaries at places like Bharuch, Kavitha and Dora, and three at Ahmedabad.

After a long fruitful life Shri Kantilal expired on 27.03.1991
